Tips, Tools & Techniques Tuesday

Hello Everybody,

The tip I have for you this week is so super simple yet so helpful.  I was making these cute little "Chick Boxes" to send to my grandsons for Easter and I wanted to have glittery beaks and feet so here is what I did.  I used permanent markers and colored the silver glimmer paper the color I wanted.  Isn't that just rediculously easy? 

Here is what the glimmer paper looks like when it is colored.  Now leaving no stone unturned I thought, "why not see if this will work with the regular Stampin' Up! markers.  So, on the end of the piece you can see where I colored with four different colors using regular markers.  It took a couple of minutes to dry.  I tested with a piece of kleenex to make sure no color was coming off. 

So, there you have it.  A way to get glimmer in any color you want so you can color coordinate your projects.

Mojo Monday Rain or Shine

 

Well it's Mojo Monday and I think you are going to like the card I made for today.  Of course it's 100% Stampin' Up! because it is what I love and I always share what I love.

For this card I used the Rain or Shine stamp set, create a cupcake punch, Bashful Blue, Whisper White card stock and Parker's Patterns DSP.  The ink color is Island Indigo.  I also used the Perfect Polka Dot embossing folder on the clouds and the Stamp-a-ma-jig to place the umbrellas where I wanted them.

For the sentiment I traced the outline of the largest umbrella and cut it out then stamped the sentiment on and used a sponge to add a little shading.

The scallops at the top are made using the Tasteful Trim die cut.

Oh, and I raised up the clouds with Stampin' Dimensionals too.

Silhouette Cameo Sunday - Chick Boxes and a Card

You probably expected something green today since it is St. Patrick's Day.  Sorry but today I have something yellow.  I made two chick boxes for my grandsons for easter and a little card to go with them. 

As usual I used all Stampin' Up! materials to make these cute little decorations.  The boxes open up to reveal a few pieces of easter candy inside.  I don't expect these to last very long.  I cut the egg shaped card, the egg shaped layer and the zig zag piece with the Silhouette Cameo.  The design on the egg is made using the Woodgrain background stamp, the ribbon is Daffodil Delight 1/2" seam binding and the stems are made using the stem sizzlet. 

Can't wait to share them with my little grandsons.

Silhouette Cameo Sunday - Tulip Lattice Card

You are going to love, love, love this card!  Well, I do and think you will too.  It is made with a combination of Stampin' Up! tools and materials and my Silhouette Cameo.  It is also the one I mentioned in my What's New Wednesday blog.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The base is Rose Red CS, the next layer is Whisper White CS embossed with the Cloud Textured Impressions Folder (see the tip for this).  The flowers, stem and lattice are all cut using the Silhouette Cameo from Rose Red Textured CS, Old Olive CS   and   Sahara Sand CS.

I used the Two Way Glue Pen to attach the stem to the lattice and Glue Dots to attach the  flowers.  Then I used the Anywhere Glue Stick to glue the lattice to the card front.  A bow is made from Linen Thread and attached with a Glue Dot.

The flowers are from a shape number 5297 called Tulip by Lori Whitlock, the stem is shape number 4429 called Blackeyed Susans by Cali Arroyo and the lattice is shape number 2791 called Circle Background Sm by Silhouette.  I resized the circle background to 5 x 5 inches and then once it was cut out I trimmed it to the width I wanted for the card.  One square will make 3 cards. For the Stampin' Up! smooth card stock I used Thickness 33, Blade 4, speed 5.  For the Stampin' Up! Textured card stock I used Thickness 33, Blade 5, speed 5.

What's New Wednesday and a Tip Too

Hello Happy Stampers,

Today I am combining What's New Wednesday with Tips, Tools & Techniques.  Let me start by asking you a question.  Am I the only one who is frustrated with the size of the new Stampin' Up! textured impression folders?  I mean, I like that they are larger and will cover an entire card front now but I don't like that they won't fit through the Big Shot in either direction.  I don't know how many times I have wanted a design to go a certain direction on my card and I can't do it because the folder won't fit through the machine.  Now, I would say if you're going to sell the folders larger you need to sell a larger Big Shot too.  But, I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon and I wouldn't like the idea of having to shell out the big bucks to buy a new one either. 

So, after saying all of that I wanted to use my cloud folder for a really cool card idea and I wanted the clouds to cross my card stock horizontially.  Guess what I did!  I checked to see just how too wide the folder was and I cut off the open end!   Yep, I just took the scissors I use for cutting rubber and hacked about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch off the end of the folder. 

                                                   Don't gasp, it really wasn't that bad.  It didn't really cut away any of the design as the ends are smooth anyway and now it fits in either direction and I was able to make my card.

Go ahead, be bold, make your tools work for you!  My husband does this all the time with his metal working so why shouldn't I?

Aviary Language of Friendship

 

Hello Again,

It feels so good to be back into a "normal" routine.  I had some time on Saturday to sit down and do a little designing.  I have received some lovely cards from friends lately and one of them inspired this card.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The leaves are from the Language of Friendship stamp set and are colored with the Wild Wasabi marker and heat embossed with Wild Wasabi embossing powder.  Contrary to popular belief you can actually heat emboss with the regular inks you just have to be a little quicker about it.  I stamped, powdered and heat embossed each set of leaves as I went along so the ink stayed wet long enough for the powder to stick.  The circle was the 2 3/4" circle punch used to make a mask so I could sponge the color on around it.  I used Pool Party and Island Indigo inks.  The DSP is Summer Smooches.  I drew the trunk by hand with the Soft Suede Marker and the little owl is from the Aviary stamp set.

Silhouette Cameo Sunday - Lampshades

I don't know if I told you or not but my dear friend, 89 years old, passed away last Wednesday.  I was able to be with her until the end and allow her to pass at home which was a strong desire of her heart.  I am very thankful for all the years we had together.  Part of her gift to me was to leave some of her things two of which were a pair of bedside lamps.  They are really pretty, to me anyway, and fit perfectly with our decor so I was glad to have them.  They needed lamp shades though so I went to Walmart and bought two five dollar shades.  After getting them home I felt they just weren't "enough".  They needed something.  So, off I went to my Silhouette Cameo.

In our room above our bed is this tapestry we found at a yard sale.  We stretched it over a wood frame and it looks really cool in our room.  So I began to search for something that I could do to the shades to carry the theme.  There is this little village nestled in the mountains with trees all around.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I found this cute little silhouette titled "Winter Town".  It is shape number 4543 and was designed by Rivka Williams.  It was perfect!

I sized it to the 3.5" tall and cut it out of sticky back vinyl.  Because the shade is round I had to cut the design every so often so I could lay it in nicely.  The design is stuck to the INSIDE of the shade.  When the light is turned off it looks just like a regular shade but turn the light on and Viola! the design shows through.

Cool huh?  Fun to make, only took me a couple of hours to do both and now I have custom lamp shades to complete the decor in my bedroom.
